Are you a first year Science student? Do you have questions, are looking for support, or need help accessing resources on campus? Check out our re-vamped MSS Mentorship Program. This program is a service for incoming first years in the Faculty of Science that strives to make the transition into university easier by providing academic and social resources, as well as upper-year support.

We understand that first year is a huge adjustment, and it is often hard to budget time for in-person sessions. Therefore, we have accommodated for this by providing our service through a completely online platform! Students will be paired with upper year science representatives (Sciclones) to act as a source of knowledge, information, support. Students in this program will benefit from access to valuable resource sheets, and develop a strong support network.

How does it work?

You will be paired with an upper year who will be reaching out to you through an online platform (e-mail, Facebook messenger, message) every month. They will be discussing important topics such as “How to get involved?”, “Tips for doing well on midterms”, “Where to find academic support/wellness support on campus?” and much more. Each e-mail will include a resource sheet, with campus and Hamilton wide programs/ services that pertain to these topics!

Our hope is that first year students always feel as though they have somewhere to turn, and that these connections will prove to be valuable and long-lasting. Welcome to the Science family-we are so lucky and happy to have you!

Sincerely,

The Mentor Team

“My mentor was amazing. She always answered any questions I had with an extensive amount of information and as soon as possible. She took time out of her busy welcome week to take me on a personal tour of the campus and helped me find ALL of my classes. She was/is an amazing mentor and I'm glad I was paired up with her this year!
