CHEM 4OA3 - Natural Products

Really cool course, so those of you who don't know natural products are molecules organisms synthesize for a purpose outside of energy needs, storage, or reproduction. In other words it does not need it but helps the fitness, a famous example is caffeine, as trees use it as a mild pesticide, obviously we use caffeine as something else, but the majority of drugs are derivatives of natural products. Anyway this course will make you be able t identify how essentially any natural product is made, its kinda like retrosynthesis orgo, with different rules, but its a lot of fun, as always McNulty is a slow one, who has comprehensive but indecipherable notes

Go to class. He teaches how some mechanism works that you would otherwise spend time staring at if you were using his notes alone
